Tutor2You - the startup making waves in home tutoring

Tutor2You is a home tutoring service changing the way Australian students achieve success.

Scott Fell, Founder and CEO of Tutor2You, recognised a gap in the tutoring market when he was studying at university. Students were studying without being taught the skills and methodology of how to study effectively.

The problem according to Scott at the outset however, was that 'Nobody cared! People just wanted a tutor for their kids, from prep school to Year 12. Going into a marketplace and trying to convince people they need something that they don't want is incredibly difficult."

So Tutor2You delivered their message to the market with a twist. "We focus on giving kids the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed with the confidence and motivation to put it into action."

As with any successful startup, Scott and his team evolved their offer and communications over the next 5 years. All the while, he was still working full-time as a Structural Engineer.

Scott went through a small business certificate program where he met the founder of MiniMovers, Mike O'Hagan, who became his informal mentor. "Mike said to me, 'You've got the McDonald's problem. How do you guarantee the standard of service when you've got students and tutors with different needs and skills in different locations?''. That was when my engineering systems process frameworks style background got to work. We started wrapping a whole bunch of frameworks around what we did. We developed a range of assessments to pinpoint any knowledge gaps, aligned with the national curriculum."

How does the Tutor2You process differ from other home tutoring services?

  • A dedicated Manager holds a discovery call in order to select the best tutor for the student and to arrange a free trial
  • Prior to the in-home consultation, the tutor allocates a series of online assessments to identify any knowledge gaps
  • In conjunction with the tutor's recommendations, parents can choose the package that suits their child best from a range of flexible options
  • The tutor develops a tailor-made program mapped to the curriculum
  • Parents receive detailed lesson reports after each lesson directly to their inbox

Scott says, "We have a flat structure which is very appealing from a franchise perspective, because the systems and processes are proven."

From 8 clients and 20 tutors, to 1300 clients and 350 tutors, the only way is up for Tutor2You.
