Posh Wash franchise business Q & A

Damon Stanford and Paul Capkin, founding Directors at Posh Wash Mobile Detailing, joined us for a brief chat at the Melbourne Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo, April 2022.

We covered some of the key aspects of the franchise business including the type of people that are best suited, any common misconceptions about the brand or industry, as well as advice or guidance for anyone looking to get into business for themselves, and more...

What is your business?

Paul: "We're Posh Wash and we're a mobile car detailing business where we go to people's home or workplace to provide the service.

Where are you located?

Damon: So we're located currently in Mornington Peninsula and Bayside (Victoria) looking to expand into other states and across Australia.

What do you love about the business and what you do?

Paul: Okay. So what I love about the business is the fact that we started from nothing and we are collectively 12 years down the track and very excited about what we do in terms of it, the opportunity, for its growth.

What do you look for in the right-fit person to be a franchise owner?

Damon: The perfect person would be someone that is slightly entrepreneurial.

Who's got a good work ethic, good with people, has a great I guess attention to detail is helpful, but not essential because we do provide all the training required to do the job and it really comes down to someone that we feel is going to progress our brand in the right way and to offer to customers a really valuable service.

What’s a common misconception you believe people have about your brand or niche?

Paul: Okay. So one of the common things that we get is that they don't know that our service actually exists where we can actually go to their workplace or a place of residence.

So that's probably the biggest and also differentiating between what is a detail and what is actually just what we call a deluxe standard car wash.

Deluxe wash is your standard wash at $60 and then for the equivalent of the same size vehicle.

And a full detail, you're looking at $325. So there is a big difference in terms of the time that it takes and what you're actually producing, what you're actually providing as a service to the customer.

What would be your advice for people looking to get into their own business?

Damon: I would say do your homework, and research the actual area that you're wanting to get into if it's a franchise.

I would say that, you know, seeing yourself as an entrepreneur, seeing yourself as a business owner rather than as a franchisee is a really good mindset to go into any business. And that's what we're encouraging all of our franchisees is to think of themselves in that way.

We're here to support and to to help them grow. But ultimately, the passion, and the work ethic has to come from them.

What is your key focus for the next 12-18 months?

Paul: We have a goal to sell 100 franchises in five years. And so in that it's about taking those steps along the way to create that. And we're very passionate about what we do.

We believe in what we do because we've done the groundwork.

We've got a collective 12 years between us and we understand that it works.

And so it's about getting people to jump on board and believe in what we do, but also having that same drive and passion about Posh Wash as what we do 100%."
