Fitillion franchise business Q & A

The Fitillion team of Nikki, Mike and Matt, joined us for a brief chat at the Sydney Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo, August 2022.

We covered some of the key aspects of the franchise including the type of people that are best suited, any common misconceptions about the brand or industry, as well as advice or guidance for anyone looking to get into business for themselves, and more…

What is your business?

Mike: "So we are Fitillion. We're a Sydney-based fitness tech company and our key point of difference is personalised group fitness.

We do this by allowing our members to choose a fitness goal and a skill level, and then we personalise their workout program, their meal plans, and their progress tracking.

We have three products, a studio gym, which was voted best in Sydney and which we are now franchising, and we have a home gym which is the first interactive functional training home gym, and then we have an at-home bodyweight workout app."

Where are you located?

Nikki: "We're currently franchising in Sydney and then we're going to be moving up and down the Eastern Coast of Australia."

What do you love about the business and what you do?

Matt: "What we love about the business is that we feel it truly feels a gap in the market.

Group fitness training is great for community, but what's not great (for) is that you can't train for your own personal fitness goals, and we feel that we've taken the best parts of group fitness training and personalisation and put them together."

What do you look for in the right-fit person to be a franchise owner?

Mike: "Typically it would be ideal if they came from the fitness industry or they should at least have a love for fitness.

But more so than that, they should be self-motivated and hands-on.

They should be an early adopter of new trends and embrace new technology as opposed to resistance."

What’s a common misconception you believe people have about your brand or niche?

Nikki: "Everybody thinks that we're the same as every other functional training studio on the market, and we are so far further than that. We're much more advanced.

Our technology programs work out based on two questions.

Initially if are you a beginner, are you an intermediate, or are you an advanced level of training?

And then the second question is, what is your goal?

Are you wanting to be lean and fit?

Are you wanting to build muscle and strength, or do you want to be an all-rounder?

What that means is you can train next to your partner, your friends, or a family member and do completely two different workouts, but you get to train an entire time together.

One could be doing an advanced weight class and the other could be doing a beginner cardio session."

What would be your advice for people looking to get into their own business?

Matt: "I suggest if you're looking at franchising, you should look at the type of business that can set you up for success with the proper support and training that you would need.

I'd also suggest being more forward-thinking and not just jumping on hot trends for companies that are really popular now and just marketing in that way.

I'd suggest in looking at five and ten years in the future and what will be popular then."

What is your key focus for the next 12-18 months?

Mike: "We've spent over four years with a fairly significant investor team and a team of people building some amazing fitness products, and we're excited now about releasing these awesome products into the market.

We're also excited to be working with lots of future franchisees and forming great partnerships with them and at the same time just helping people to achieve their individual fitness goals."
