SKILL SAMURAI franchise business Q & A with Jamie Buttigieg

Jamie Buttigieg, CEO Aust/NZ of SKILL SAMURAI, took a little time to explain a little on the brand detail.

A coding and STEM Academy business that actually prefers you to NOT have experience as a coder!

The brand

"SKILL SAMURAI coding and STEM Academy.

We effectively run learning centers where kids can come in and learn coding, computers, robotics, AI and mathematics.

What do you love about the business?

Well, we're inspiring kids, preparing the next generation for the digital age.

We're helping kids develop a healthy relationship with technology, which is pretty cool. There's a challenge with digital addiction at the moment with our kids.

So it's something you can wake up every morning and be really proud of.

What do you look for in the right-fit person to be a franchise owner?

Great question.

So rather than a skill set, it's really about values fit.

Why does this person want to do it?

Do you see yourself working with kids, empowering the next generation, working with parents?

What would you like people to know about your franchise offer?

You know, one of the things about SKILL SAMURAI or education in general is that it's a strong, stable industry.

It's a growth market. There's also no challenge with cost of stock or cost of goods and freight issues.

It's a service business, a nice, simple business to run.

And if you've got the passion and the work ethic, I think you can be really successful.

What’s a common misconception people have about your brand or niche?

Yeah, look, the biggest misconception is people think you have to be a coder or a programmer, and it's simply not the case.

In fact, we prefer people who don't come from a programming or technical background.

We don't want them in the classrooms. We hire certain educators to fulfil that role and to deliver an excellent student and parent experience.

And really, we want the franchise partner to be the face of the business, making relationships with schools and local businesses in their community and working on the business.

Key focus for the next 12 to 18 months?

For us, the big focus over the next 12 to 18 months is our math code products.

We're launching a new product to market. It's a math tuition product that combines mathematics and coding.

It's a first to market product globally, and we're very excited about introducing that."
